During the general manager meetings in Las Vegas, Craig Breslow mentioned that if the Red Sox add to the starting rotation, it will be a frontline arm. Jacob deGrom could be a phenomenal fit for the Red Sox.

deGrom is a two-time Cy Young Award winner and five-time All-Star. However, injuries have set him back lately. Going into last season, he had not made 20 starts in any of the previous four years. However, when he is on the mound, he is one of the best in the sport.

Breslow wants a frontline starter, and deGrom is just that. He will not be cheap, but the Red Sox have a talented roster and may feel pressure to capitalize on it right now.

He signed a five-year, $185 million deal with the Texas Rangers in 2022. He had made just nine starts for the team before this past season. Last season, he had a resurgent season, making 30 starts with a 2.97 ERA. He was also named an All-Star for the first time since 2021.

After dealing with elbow issues in 2023 and 2024, deGrom proved why he is one of the most talented pitchers on the planet. The Rangers are reportedly going to lower their payroll, and deGrom being traded could be in play.

deGrom is owed $75 million over the next two seasons and has a club option for 2028. He and Garrett Crochet could be the best duo in baseball if the Red Sox trade for him.

deGrom has a 2.57 ERA in 248 career starts. His injury history is a concern and may deter teams from trading for him. However, all that means is that the competition to land him could be less.

Last season, Crochet proved to be the ace the Red Sox needed. However, adding deGrom would give the Red Sox two legitimate aces and increase their odds of winning the American League East.
