The Boston Red Sox will soon have a new No. 11.
Marcelo Mayer will take the number that was most recently worn by Rafael Devers, making the switch from No. 39. Nate Eaton will also be rocking a new number, as he made the change to No. 18 after previously wearing No. 40.
Willson Contreras, the club’s most recent trade acquisition, will take No. 40.
Boston’s uniform changes were reflected on the club’s official website on Tuesday.
Devers, 29, made the double-uno extremely popular around Fenway Park, wearing the number for nine seasons in which he was named an All-Star three times, earned two Silver Slugger nods and won the 2018 World Series. The Red Sox, of course, brought an end to his tenure by trading him to the San Francisco Giants in June.

Mayer, 23, is expected to have an increased role during his sophomore season, which will likely come as either the full-time option at second base or third base depending on what happens during the remainder of the offseason. Mayer slashed .228/.272/.402 during his rookie season in 2025, and will look to improve upon those numbers in 2026.
