The New England Patriots exceeded everyone’s expectations this season, earning a 14-3 record and their first AFC East division title since 2019.
The list of reasons why the Patriots transformed from a 4-13 disaster last year to a 14-3 powerhouse in 2025 is a long one, but nobody made a more profound impact on this franchise’s dramatic turnaround than starting quarterback Drake Maye.
The No. 3 pick from the 2024 NFL Draft had one of the most impressive sophomore seasons by a quarterback in league history. He has a very strong case to win league MVP.
Setting records and climbing the Patriots’ single-season passing leaderboard is not easy when you consider the best player of all time — Tom Brady — played in Foxboro for 20 seasons. But Maye has actually carved out some nice real estate in the team’s record book with his fantastic Year 2.
Here’s a look at where Maye’s season ranks in Patriots history, broken down by several key stats.
Completion percentage
- Maye: 72 percent
- All-time rank: 1st
Maye broke the Patriots’ single-season completion percentage record this season. His 72 percent mark also ranks sixth-best all time. He’s the first quarterback in team history to hit 70 percent. Tom Brady’s career-high was 68.9 percent during his record-setting 2007 campaign.
Yards per attempt
- Maye: 8.9 yards per attemt
- All-time rank: 1st
This is another single-season team record Maye set in 2025. He bested Brady’s previous record of 8.6 from the 2011 campaign.

Passer rating
- Maye: 113.5
- All-time rank: 2nd
Maye finished a little bit short of matching Brady’s team record 117.2 passer rating from 2007. The North Carolina product did lead the league in passer rating this season, though, and his 13 games in 2025 with a passer rating of 100 or better broke Brady’s previous team record of 12.
Maye also tied Patrick Mahomes for the most such games by a player under the age of 24 in a single season all time.
Wins
- Maye: 14
- All-time rank: T-2nd
It’s fair to debate whether wins is a good measure of a quarterback’s success, but when you get to 14 in one season, that’s pretty impressive company. Maye and Dan Marino (1984) are the youngest quarterbacks in league history to win 14 or more regular season games.

QBR
- Maye: 77.2
- All-time rank: T-4th
Brady’s 87.0 QBR in 2007 is the best in team history, but Maye’s 77.2 was good enough to tie Brady for the fourth-best by a Patriot. Maye also led the league in QBR this season, and he did so by a fairly comfortable margin. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was second at 73.1.
Maye’s 99.8 QBR against the Jets in Week 17 was the highest for a single game in the metric’s history (2006 to present).
Passing yards
- Maye: 4,394 yards
- All-time rank: 8th
It’s going to be a challenge to surpass Brady’s team record of 5,235 yards from the 2011 season, but with the 17-game schedule, it’s possible that Maye could approach it someday. Maye is the third quarterback in team history to throw for 4,000-plus yards, joining Brady and Drew Bledsoe.
Passing TDs
- Maye: 31 TDs
- All-time rank: T-8th
Brady tallied more than 31 passing touchdowns seven times, including a team record 50 in 2007. Maye, Brady and Babe Parilli (31 in 1964) are the only quarterbacks in team history to throw 30-plus touchdowns in a season. Bledsoe’s career high was 28 in 1997.
When you factor in Maye’s age, his 31 touchdowns look even more impressive. He is just the eighth player under the age of 24 to throw 30-plus touchdowns, joining Dan Marino (1984), Daunte Culpepper (2000), Matthew Stafford (2011), Blake Bortles (2015), Patrick Mahomes (2018), Lamar Jackson (2019) and Justin Herbert (2020-21).
