The Boston Red Sox‘s hectic start to the offseason has come to a screeching halt. After adding several pitchers on the trade market, the team has struggled to find a way to bring another powerful bat or two to town.

While the Sox have money to spend this offseason in free agency, it’s not as simple as going out and handing the top players available a big bag of cash. Boston also has a revamped farm system that has helped on the trade market, and that could continue to be the case moving forward.

At this stage of the game, it remains to be seen whether or not the Red Sox feature a better roster than they did in 2025. According to a recent report, while the team is still keeping tabs on potential pitching targets, their focus is on finding a way to shore up their lineup.

“A pitching addition should not be ruled out for Boston, but the Red Sox are more focused on position players,” Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic reported. “Bregman and Bichette continue to stand out as potential fits. On the pitching side, the Sox have expressed some interest in Peralta.”

After striking out on both Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber early in free agency, a reunion with Alex Bregman would seemingly make quite a bit of sense for Boston. Bo Bichette has also been mentioned as an option in free agency, while Ketel Marte continues to be linked to the team as a trade target.

The Red Sox have done a lot of work already this offseason, but they still need to make another big move or two if they want to emerge as a serious World Series contender. As a result, it will be worth monitoring the team’s work over the next few weeks.
