The New England Patriots losing in the Super Bowl is tough for Boston sports fans. But on the bright side, it might be a good sign for the Boston Red Sox.
After getting blown out by the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, the Patriots have now lost six Super Bowls in franchise history. That’s an NFL record.
Fortunately for Boston sports fans, the Red Sox tend to do well after New England loses the big game.
The Patriots lost their first Super Bowl appearance in early 1986, getting crushed by the Chicago Bears. Boston won the pennant later that year, only to lose the World Series to the New York Mets in agonizing fashion.
New England’s second Super Bowl loss came in early 1997, in the middle of a pretty good run for the Red Sox. Boston struggled that season but bounced back to make the playoffs in 1998 and 1999 after trading for Pedro Martinez.

After winning three Super Bowls in four years in the early 2000s, the Patriots didn’t lose the Super Bowl again until early 2008, just a few months after the Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies in the World Series.
New England lost the Super Bowl again four years later, again to Eli Manning and the New York Giants. Fortunately, the pain was relatively short-lived, as Boston won it all in 2013.

Following a pair of Super Bowl wins, the Patriots shockingly lost to Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles in early 2018. The Red Sox soothed the region with their greatest season in franchise history, capped off by their fourth championship of the century.
So if recent history is any indication, New England’s loss to the Seahawks in Super Bowl LX on Sunday might mean good things are in store for Boston’s baseball team this year.
