The Patriots are eager to bounce back after their Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and former NFL star Tyrann Mathieu might have a solution for how New England can improve this offseason.

“They should take sort of the Kansas City approach after we lost to Tampa Bay,” Mathieu said Tuesday on “In the Bayou With Tyrann Mathieu”. “Patrick (Mahomes) probably ran around that whole game. I remember some of the throws he made. He was parallel to the ground, but the very next day, they brought in new offensive linemen.”

Mathieu was referring to Super Bowl LV, where Tampa Bay sacked Mahomes three times, winning the game 31-9. Mahomes had barely any time to throw, and the Chiefs went out and found new offensive linemen to address the issue.

Drake Maye was sacked six times by the Seahawks, and although Mathieu is not ready to give up on left tackle Will Campbell just yet, he believes the Patriots need to add more support to the offensive line.

“Will Campbell is still young,” Mathieu added. “The left side of the offensive line is young and will need time to grow, but you’ve got to be able to protect the product.”

Mathieu is a three-time Pro Bowler who won the Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019. He understands what it’s like to experience both victory and defeat in the Super Bowl. While Mathieu played safety rather than on the offensive line, he has valuable insights into how to approach offensive linemen. His perspective could be invaluable to the Patriots as they consider whether to bolster their offensive line this offseason.
