The New England Patriots are shaping up as a team to watch before the NFL trade deadline.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano identified the Patriots as an organization “most likely” to trade for players by Tuesday. The insider wrote that they’re “flush with picks and cap space and would love to cash in on this hot start in Mike Vrabel’s first year as their coach.”

New England accumulated extra draft capital by trading linebacker Keion White to the San Francisco 49ers and safety Kyle Dugger to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Graziano expects the Patriots to now turn their attention toward adding pieces that can help them return to the postseason.

“After acquiring picks in deals last week with San Francisco and Pittsburgh, the Pats now have 10 selections in the 2026 draft and more salary cap space than any other team,” Graziano noted. “They are well-positioned to take advantage of an opportunity if a player they like becomes available.”

Graziano reported that New England is seeking help at running back, but that search could hinge on the health of Rhamondre Stevenson. The Patriots could become “aggressive” suitors for backfield help if Stevenson, who’s sitting out Week 9’s game against the Atlanta Falcons with a toe injury, requires a long-term absence.

While the Patriots are also pursuing an edge rusher, Graizano highlighted a potential roadblock. The Miami Dolphins could shop Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb and Matthew Judon, but they’re less likely to trade them to a division opponent.

The Patriots could motivate the front office to make a splash by extending their five-game winning streak on Sunday.
