Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman will make his return on Friday at Fenway Park.
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen the veteran third baseman, who went on the injured list after suffering a quad strain on May 23. The Red Sox have been eagerly awaiting his return to the lineup ever since, because… well, he’s slashing .299/.385/.553.
It’ll look a bit different this time around, though.
The Red Sox released their lineup for Friday’s contest with the Tampa Bay Rays, sliding the three-time All-Star into the second spot after he batted third in all 226 prior plate appearances. Why? Boston traded its previous two hitter — Rafael Devers — back on Father’s Day.
Roman Anthony is the only regular who won’t be in the lineup Friday, as Masataka Yoshida is back in alongside the likes of Carlos Narváez, Wilyer Abreu, Trevor Story, Marcelo Mayer, Abraham Toro and Ceddanne Rafaela, in that order behind Bregman. Jarren Duran will lead things off.
