By COLLEEN BARRY, Associated Press MILAN (AP) — A wildlife photographer stumbled upon one of the oldest and largest known collections of dinosaur footprints, dating back about 210 million years to the Triassic Period, high in an Italian national park near the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympic venue of Bormio, officials announced Tuesday. The discovery in the Stelvio National Park was striking for the sheer number of footprints, estimated at as many as 20,000 over some 3 miles, and the location near the Swiss border, once a prehistoric coastal area, that has never previously yielded dinosaur tracks, experts said. “This…

MIAMI (AP) — FIFA slashed the price of some World Cup tickets for teams’ most loyal fans following a global backlash and some will get $60 seats for the final instead of being asked to pay $4,185. FIFA said Tuesday that $60 tickets will be made available for every game at the tournament in North America, going to the national federations whose teams are playing. The Boston Red Sox have been busy on the trade market recently, and more moves could be made as they slow-play their work in free agency. One team that could be open for business is the San Diego Padres, as they are reportedly taking trade offers for several key players. Let’s look at three of those players and see if Boston should look to make a move for them. Mason Miller The Padres picked up Miller in a deal with the Athletics ahead of the trade deadline last season, but they already could be looking to move him. One of…

Since chief baseball officer Craig Breslow took over in late 2023, improving the Red Sox pitching development program has been a top priority. So when the man Breslow hired to lead those efforts, Justin Willard, departed to become the New York Mets’ new pitching coach earlier this fall, it left a critical vacancy for the Red Sox to fill. Now, it appears Breslow has his new man. According to multiple sources, the Red Sox have promoted Ben Buck as the club’s new director of pitching. Buck originally joined the Red Sox as a pitching coordinator this past January and over…

If the Boston Red Sox look to trade Jarren Duran this offseason, the Kansas City Royals are an obvious match. Kansas City is looking for outfield help, and its pitching staff includes multiple arms that could pique Boston’s interest. The Royals are open to trading for Duran, but according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Red Sox’ asking price is too high. KC believes such a deal would require shipping left-hander Cole Ragans to Boston. “Even after signing free agent Lane Thomas and trading for Isaac Collins, the Kansas City Royals are open to adding another outfielder – most notably…

Much has been written about the Boston Red Sox and their pursuit of a power bat. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow whiffed on Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso, but remains connected to several sluggers on the market, including third baseman Alex Bregman and Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Ketel Marte. But if Breslow wants to take a flyer on a low-cost, high-upside alternative, here’s a name to consider: Justin Turner. Yes, THAT Justin Turner. The one who spent the 2023 season with the Red Sox. The one who hit 23 home runs and set a career high with 96 RBIs while playing…

When it comes to upgrading the pitching staff, Craig Breslow’s path is pretty straightforward. Just get as many good arms as possible and worry about the rest later. But when it comes to sorting out the Red Sox’s starting lineup, it’s not quite that simple. Everyone can agree the Red Sox need to upgrade their offense, but with Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso no longer available there aren’t many obvious options who could immediately plug in and provide the power production Boston needs. The other problem is the Red Sox already have more position players than they have space for,…

In the rare prospect for prospect, pitcher for pitcher, and guy already on the 40-man roster for guy already on the 40-man roster swap, the Red Sox are sending right-handed pitching Luis Perales down I-95 to Washington for left-handed pitching Jake Bennett. Jeff Passan, as usual, was first on the news. It’s certainly an unusual trade, and one that’s difficult to fully make sense of without being inside of either from office, but Chris Cotillo did manage to grab the following quote on Bennett from Craig Breslow. As you can probably surmise from that quote, Bennett is a big boy, coming in…
