The Boston Red Sox have signed veteran relief pitcher Tayron Guerrero to a minor league contract, Andrew Parker of SoxProspects.com reported Saturday afternoon. Guerrero first made the MLB in 2016 and has had an interesting baseball career since. He began his career with the San Diego Padres, appearing in just one game in the 2016 season. The pitcher was back in the minor leagues for 2017 but received his big break the next year with the Miami Marlins. Guerrero became a Marlins bullpen mainstay. He spent two seasons with the team and struck out 111 batters in a combined 104…

Alex Bregman has made his free agency choice, and isn’t Boston. The news comes hours after the Red Sox wrapped up a Fenway Fest full of players stating they hoped Bregman would return. The Celtics were down a pair of wings for their Saturday night matchup with the San Antonio Spurs at TD Garden. After ruling out reserve Josh Minott (left ankle sprain) for the third consecutive game, Boston added veteran Sam Hauser to its injury report Saturday evening, making him a late scratch because of right hamstring tightness. It was the first DNP of the season for Hauser, who started the previous four games. He enjoyed one of his best games of the season on Friday, scoring 19 points, shooting 5-for-7 from 3-point range and notching a key fourth-quarter steal in a…
The Boston Celtics, fresh off a 125-117 win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday night, have moved back up to second place in the Eastern Conference. With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the C’s are expected to operate as buyers in an attempt to beef up their roster. While Boston has done well to exceed expectations this year, there are holes on this roster that need to be addressed. Easily the team’s biggest need is a big man who can help shore up the team’s rotation alongside Neemias Queta and Luka Garza. There should be several options for Boston at…
Pavel Zacha is the Bruins’ Mr. Everything. If they need him to play center, he does that. If they need him to play wing, he can do that, too. Power play? Penalty kill? Yup and yup. But often lost in his versatility is the fact that the 28-year-old Zacha was drafted sixth overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2015 and he’s got a lot of skill, too. That came to the forefront in Saturday’s 10-2 drubbing of the Rangers when Zacha was one of two players to notch their first hat trick. It’s not surprising that it was the…
The Boston Celtics lost a whole lot of experience, leadership and good vibes this offseason when they parted ways with Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and Luke Kornet. But how much did they really lose in on-court production? It’s a fair question to ask, considering Boston hasn’t missed a beat in their absences. Even with superstar Jayson Tatum sidelined, the Celtics have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference (24-13) and boast the best offensive rating (122.6) in the NBA. We’ve written plenty about how Boston has been able to thrive with its new-look roster. But with the first…
