Lucas Giolito is officially a free agent. The Red Sox right-hander hit the open market after his mutual option was declined, allowing the 31-year-old another crack at landing a long-term deal that could carry him into his mid-30s. But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t still come back. Giolito’s future is one of the most fascinating questions facing the Red Sox this offseason. The veteran was an indispensable part of Boston’s rotation this past season and the club wouldn’t have made the playoffs without him, but he also missed his entire first season with the Red Sox due to injury and…

The Boston Celtics dropped Monday night’s game to the Utah Jazz in crushing fashion, losing by two points at home in the final seconds. Jaylen Brown still isn’t over it, especially after feeling like he was wronged by the referees during crunch time. With the Celtics up by one and approximately 50 seconds left, Brown dribbled towards the basket from the top of the arc. Jazz defender Keyonte George slipped and fell in front of Brown, who tripped over George and lost the ball, resulting in a game-changing turnover. Surprisingly, the refs did not call a tripping foul on George,…

The Patriots didn’t make any additions before the trade deadline, leading most everybody in New England to believe it was a missed opportunity for a team that shares the best record in the entire NFL with just two other teams. Count Albert Breer among the dissenters. With the Patriots hanging onto all 11 of their 2026 draft picks, Breer believes they will be better off in the long run by taking as many shots on young players as possible. “I still think the roster is a little ways away and you’re gonna need these picks,” Breer said on Early Edition.…

WINCHESTER – Motivation has been there all year for the Winchester field hockey team to get back to the Div. 1 Final Four, and finish with a different ending. Shamrocks goalie Emma Mitchell (26 saves) played phenomenally and the defense challenged Winchester all game in a low-scoring affair, despite allowing 13 corners. DARTMOUTH — Landon Raposa remembered well how Dartmouth’s season came to an end the last two years with home losses in the first round. Back in that setting Tuesday night at Dartmouth Memorial Stadium with a Division 2 first-round matchup against No. 25 Marshfield, Raposa ensured that didn’t happen again by being the ultimate difference-maker. Raposa, who notched one goal and two assists, overwhelmed the Rams with his blazing speed and skill to lead eighth-seeded Dartmouth to a resounding 4-0 boys soccer victory. “He’s always been our energy,” Dartmouth head coach Josh Silva said. “Like I said, I’ve been around…

The Boston Red Sox got some exciting news on Tuesday as Trevor Story opted into his contract and Jarren Duran signed a one-year deal for 2026, teeing up two of the team’s best players to return next season after helping lead the Red Sox to the playoffs this year. One player who won’t be back, however, is veteran reliever Liam Hendriks, who struggled with injuries and poor performance in limited playing time this year. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported on Tuesday that Boston declined its $12 million mutual option with Hendriks, making him a free agent. He will receive a $2…

In his recap/warning to Blue Jays fans following their quasi-singularly traumatic World Series Game 7 experience, Defector’s Barry Petchesky, referencing the Yankees loss against the Diamondbacks in 2001, put it thusly:So let’s have a little heart-to-heart chat, you, the grieving and traumatized Jays fan, me, a fan who was on the wrong side of what was probably the best and most dramatic World Series until this one. Maybe I can help:You’re screwed. You will never get over this. You will never fully recover. The sharp pain may age to a dull ache, but it will never go away. You will…
