The New England Patriots managed to pick up their sixth-straight win in Week 9, as they defeated the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 24-23. An unexpected star in this win was running back Terrell Jennings, who was filling in for the injured Rhamondre Stevenson. While TreVeyon Henderson led the way in the Patriots’ running back room, Jennings chipped in as the No. 2 option behind him after getting signed from the practice squad to the active roster earlier in the week. With more touches coming his way, Jennings racked up 35 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while…

Jaylen Brown had good reason to be miffed about the end of Monday night’s Celtics game. The NBA announced Tuesday that Jazz guard Keyonte George should have been called for a foul when he slipped into Brown’s path in the final minute of Boston’s 105-103 loss to Utah at TD Garden. Brown tripped over George and lost the ball, leading to a go-ahead transition layup for Lauri Markkanen. A foul on George would have sent Brown to the free-throw line with the chance to give Boston a three-point lead with 50 seconds remaining. Crew chief Kevin Scott defended the no-call…

The losses were not supposed to sting this much. We were certain that, with a new-look roster and tempered expectations, the Boston Celtics’ viewing experience would be largely stress free. We were convinced fans wouldn’t feel the bumps in the road as much as they have in past seasons, where every loss in a championship-or-bust campaign felt like a stomach punch. If this new campaign was going to be a bit of a roller coaster, we were prepared with transition-year Dramamine. We couldn’t have been more wrong.  The losses still gnaw at you — in large part because, while the…

By BRIAN MELLEY, Associated Press LONDON (AP) — When it came time to receive his knighthood, soccer great David Beckham knew what to do. He bent his knee like, well, Beckham. King Charles III tapped his shoulders with the blade of a sword and “Becks” was transformed to Sir David Beckham. “This is without doubt my proudest moment,” Beckham said after Tuesday’s ceremony at Windsor Castle. “I’ve been very obviously lucky in my career to have won what I’ve won and done what I’ve done, but to receive an honor like this, of a knight, is beyond anything that I…

The Bruins will take on the New York Islanders for the second time in a week on Tuesday, having beaten the them, 5-2, last Tuesday in Boston. It was an ugly first period that night for the B’s, who fell down 2-0 before storming back for five unanswered goals for the win last Tuesday. That snapped a 4-0-1 streak for the Isles but, after losing to Carolina last Thursday, they responded by beating the Capitals on Saturday and then scoring a comeback victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday. The No. 1 overall pick, defenseman Matthew Schaefer, has been…

The Boston Red Sox acquired Garrett Crochet last offseason and may be interested in adding another elite starter this offseason. Crochet was the ace the Red Sox hoped for, but could benefit from adding another star behind him. Brayan Bello and Lucas Giolito were solid options behind Crochet in the rotation, but an elite No. 2 starter could help the Red Sox reach the World Series. FanSided’s Zachary Rotman predicted the team would swing a trade for Pablo López this offseason. “The Twins would prioritize parting with the pitcher making more money, and the Red Sox, a big-market team, shouldn’t…

Happy Tuesday, Red Sox Nation! To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Alex Bregman officially opted out of his deal on Monday. The Red Sox will have to compete with 29 other teams for his services, although several of those teams probably won’t be seriously interested because they’re cheap and waiting for a hypothetical future salary cap.Trevor Story still needs to make a decision regarding his contract. That option could go either way. We’ll get news on that front any day now.Use this thread to talk about whatever you want, and be good to one another. Source link

So you want to contend for a championship. Congrats. Welcome to the NFL’s microscope. Every team in the league is now combing through your film in search of weakness down to the last detail. It’s not enough to know your plays and your players anymore. Opponents are studying the rules underpinning your offense and defense and turning them against you every chance they can. This is what the Patriots can expect now at 7-2, tied for the best record in football. Drake Maye has rendered playing simple, straightforward defense an impossibility. He’s too good. Mike Vrabel’s defense has a couple…
