For the first time since 2016, the Boston Celtics will open the new campaign without Jayson Tatum on the court for them. Tatum is still working his way back to full health after he tore his Achilles tendon in the playoffs last year. Typically, this sort of injury would require a player to miss the entire ensuing season, but Tatum has continued to defy logic with his injury rehab. Reports indicate that Tatum wants to return to the court at some point in March for the C’s. While he won’t be on the court to start the season, Tatum has…
FOXBORO — Garrett Bradbury thinks they’re close. The Patriots center has seen the film. He understands the difference between success and failure in the running game is in the details, and if those can get ironed out, he believes they can be a more productive rushing offense. “It’s funny,” he said, “there’s several plays where if we’re just a little better here, a little better there… First of all, a four-yard run is a good run in the NFL. But then there are eight-yard runs that can be 40. “We’ve got to take ownership as linemen up front because we…
In Commonwealth Athletic Conference football action, Isiah Robles rushed for 180 yards and five touchdowns to power Northeast past Medford, 34-0. Boys soccer In the Patriot League, Jack Monroe finished with a pair of points (one goal, one assist), Ryan Murtagh added two assists, and Nolan McManus netted his first varsity goal as Hingham (9-1-2) blanked North Quincy, 4-0. Girls soccer In a nonleague game, Lucy Irwin and Addison Brosnihan both recorded a goal as Central Catholic (9-1-1) edged Newton North, 2-1. Elsewhere, Lexi Deschenes netted two goals and dished out an assist as Tyngsboro rolled to a 3-1 nonleague…
His coming out party was last Sunday night. Primetime in Buffalo. A battle with the NFL’s last undefeated team and the league’s reigning MVP. By beating Josh Allen head-to-head in a thriller, he announced his arrival. That is, of course, if you bothered to Google his name afterward. Not Drake Maye. Try Zak Kuhr. Kuhr, the Patriots’ inside linebackers coach, has called defensive plays for about a month now after defensive coordinator Terrell Williams took a medical leave. His early-season rise has almost matched Maye’s. Thanks to Kuhr’s clever game plan, the Patriots held the Bills to their lowest point…
Nearly four months later, what’s your stance on the Rafael Devers trade?I don’t feel any differently about it than I did the day it went down.Baseball is a largely individual sport masquerading as a collective endeavor. On-field chemistry matters little. One player’s performance doesn’t materially effect the performance of anyone else. And the fit of a player’s particular skill set relative to those of his teammates matters a little bit, but not much. Thus, putting together a winning team isn’t all that complicated: you assemble as many talented players on the roster as you possibly can. That’s the front office’s…
The news on Hampus Lindholm remained relatively optimistic on Saturday morning. The big defenseman did not skate but coach Marco Sturm said that he was out day-to-day with the unspecified lower body injury he suffered in the first period of Thursday’s home opener against Chicago. Sturm said he expects Lindholm to return to the ice on Sunday and then they’ll go from there. After the game, Sturm said the injury is not related to the broken kneecap he suffered on last November 12 that kept Lindholm out for 65 games. With Lindholm out of the lineup for Saturday’s game at…
The Seattle Mariners edged out the Detroit Tigers in 15 innings to advance to the American League Championship Series on Friday. With the game tied 2-2 in the 12th inning, Seattle gave the ball to former Red Sox pitcher Eduard Bazardo. The Tigers had runners on first and second with nobody out, and Bazardo got out of it. The right-hander went 2.2 scoreless innings and struck out four while allowing one hit. He also issued one intentional walk. “He’s been pitching awesome all year. It’s good that he had the opportunity to do that and he did great,” said closer…

Boy, it’s been good to be a Patriot. After upsetting the Bills in Buffalo, the Pats are riding their first win streak in almost three years. Drake Maye has been widely accepted as a franchise quarterback. The future, finally, looks bright again in Foxboro. But this is the NFL, a week-to-week league where upsets are the norm. And the Patriots are in danger of falling victim to one Sunday. Slated as 3.5-point favorites, the Pats will meet a Saints team fresh off its first win of the season. New Orleans is starved for talent, but a strong homefield advantage and…
