FOXBORO – The Patriots have a plan in place for defensive tackle Christian Barmore as he returns from blood clot issues that limited him to just four games last season. That’s why Barmore was limited to conditioning work Thursday in the Patriots’ second training camp practice of the summer, per a source. Barmore ran with trainers while the rest of his teammates participated in full-team drills. Barmore hasn’t suffered any setbacks, per a source, and said Thursday that he still plans on being on the field Week 1 when the Patriots face the Raiders at Gillette Stadium. “I feel really…

FOXBORO — The hot start continues. Drake Maye completed 14 of 15 passes in team drills over the Patriots’ second training camp practice Thursday, another non-padded session devoted mostly to the passing game and drills. DeMario Douglas led all pass-catchers with four receptions, trailed closely by running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson who each had three. Douglas and Stefon Diggs are the only players to register multiple catches in both training camp practices. So far, in Maye’s eyes, it’s been those two and everyone else else. With the MLB Trade Deadline coming up next week, the Boston Red Sox have several pressing needs. Pitching help is their top one, but they could also use a first baseman after losing Triston Casas to a season-ending knee injury in early May. Abraham Toro and Romy González have stepped up in his absence, though Toro has cooled off after a hot start. Over his last 33 games, he’s batting .220/.306/.294 with one home run and 10 RBI. With Toro scuffling, the Red Sox could use a boost at first base. However, one of their top trade targets came off…

The tight end position has become a critical piece for many of the NFL’s best offenses. Two-tight end sets were common in 2024, and they could be even more popular in 2025 as teams across the league embrace a throwback approach. The New England Patriots could be among those teams with veterans Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper in Josh McDaniels’ offense. They ran plenty of two-tight-end sets during Thursday’s training camp practice, which caught the attention of NBC Sports Boston Patriots insider Phil Perry. After the session, Perry caught up with Henry for an exclusive Next Pats Podcast interview to…

MLB and the players association are currently discussing the possibility of allowing players to compete. Next up should absolutely be Fenway Park. 2029 will…

FOXBORO — Patriots training camp kicked off Wednesday, but it could be argued that “real football” won’t start until next week. NFL teams are not permitted to hold padded full-contact practices until Day 7 of training camp, so it’s difficult to gauge offensive and defensive line play before Week 2. But on paper, the Patriots’ offensive line should be much improved this season compared to last season’s struggles, when injuries and poor play caused a constant rotation across the line, where 16 different players received snaps. Of those 16 players, nine remain on the Patriots’ current roster. The Patriots selected…

Here comes the biggest litmus test for Craig Breslow’s front office to date. The kids have arrived, the team is on the upswing, and the pitching staff has both a legitimate ace up front and a shutdown closer in the back. In short, the Boston Red Sox have the foundation to be a great team, but they’re also incomplete if they want to win a World Series in 2025. The biggest missing piece? A No. 2 starter, and it’s not even close. Personally, I like to refer to legitimate No. 2 starters as face card pitchers. Just like when playing…

The New York Yankees might be willing to trade one of their best young players, and we’re not talking about a prospect. If the Yankees are going to make splash before the deadline, they’d want to do so without depleting the cream of their farm system. The best-case scenario for New York would be to acquire an impact player without having to give up its best prospects, Spencer Jones among them. To accomplish this, New York Post’s Joel Sherman believes the Yankees are willing to include major league talent in a deal, with players like Ben Rice and Jasson Domínguez…

By WILL WEISSERT, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order mandating that federal authorities clarify whether college athletes can be considered employees of the schools they play for — attempting to create clearer national standards for the NCAA’s name image and likeness program. The move comes amid a dramatic increase in the money flowing into and around college athletics. It also follows key court victories won by current and former athletes angry that they were barred for decades, both from earning income based on their celebrity and from sharing in the billions of…
