When Roman Anthony stepped up to the plate for the first time as a big leaguer, he received a rousing standing ovation from a Fenway Park crowd that had been counting down the days to his arrival. Over the next few hours those fans were treated to a glimpse of Anthony’s immense potential, but also a reminder that baseball’s top prospect is not yet a finished product. Anthony went 0 for 4 with an RBI and a walk in his MLB debut on Monday, driving in a crucial run to help force extra innings in the Red Sox’s eventual 10-8…
Roman Anthony’s call-up to Boston came with impeccable timing — 79 years to the day after Ted Williams launched Fenway Park’s most legendary home run. Anthony, 21, arrives as one of baseball’s most electrifying prospects. He had already made waves in Triple-A Worcester, but his 497-foot grand slam on Friday — the longest known homer in pro baseball this year — seemed to signal he was ready. The ball cleared the right-field seats in Rochester, a blast longer than anything Shohei Ohtani or Aaron Judge has ever recorded and just shy of the Statcast-era record. His promotion not only energizes…

Roman Anthony did not expect to be suiting up for the Boston Red Sox on Monday. Anthony, who was unexpectedly promoted just hours prior to their matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays, expected to follow his bi-weekly routine and embark on an hours0-long bus ride to the middle of nowhere. Boston had other plans, however. “We were getting ready to get on the bus,” Anthony told reporters after arriving to Fenway Park, as seen on NESN. “(WooSox manager Chad Tracy) sent us a message and said, ‘Hey, we’re gonna delay the bus. Something might be going on at the top.’…
The New England Patriots have finished 4-13 at the bottom of the AFC East division each of the last two seasons, and they are determined to finally get back on the winning path in 2025. One of the reasons for optimism centers around Drake Maye. The No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft had a good rookie campaign and reinforced the belief among many that he can be a franchise quarterback for a long time. No player in New England will be under more pressure to improve than Maye, and he’s not backing down from the situation. 🔊 Patriots Talk…
FOXBORO — The 2023 season was the best of Christian Barmore’s NFL career. The year that followed was the worst of his life. The Patriots defensive tackle was diagnosed with blood clots last summer and missed nearly the entire 2024 campaign as a result. He sat out until mid-November, played in four games and then was shut down for the season after his symptoms — which included severe shortness of breath — returned. Now, nearly a year removed from his initial diagnosis, Barmore feels like himself again. The 25-year-old has been a full participant in spring practice and projects as…
WELLESLEY — In the very back of Chelmsford ace Matt Stuart’s mind is that each of the program’s last three state tournament runs have ended in games he started. Yet another gem from the senior Gardner-Webb University-commit on Sunday instead has the Lions reaching a new height. With a complete-game shutout, in which the four-year starter allowed just three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts, Stuart won a true pitchers duel to lift 14th-seeded Chelmsford (17-8) over No. 11 Wellesley, 1-0, in the Div. 1 state quarterfinals to secure the program’s first trip to the Final Four. Chelmsford players…
