People dig the long ball, but Romy Gonzalez is plenty happy keeping the ball in the park. The Red Sox infielder hit his first home run of the season on Saturday in Boston’s 10-7 win over the New York Yankees. That’s one home run in 23 games. Not exactly Ruthian numbers. And perhaps not what the fans want to see after watching both Tristan Casas and Alex Bregman land on the injured list. But Gonzalez, whom Boston claimed off waivers before the 2024 season, thinks less is more when it comes to his approach in the batter’s box. The 28-year-old…

The fact that Carlos Narvaez continues to be far and away the best Red Sox rookie in 2025 — the year that promised to be The Year of the Big Three— is worthy of an Alanis Morissette lyric. (Here you go, girl: It’s like rain on your wedding day / A Narv home run, when you called up Roman too late). The fact that the Sox outright stole him from the Yankees obviously makes his story even better. (Tara Sullivan, Boston Globe) We will still remember Narvaez’s clutch home run last night against the Yankees a few months from now?…
BEDFORD — Bedford High softball skipper Dennis Walsh has never seen anything like it. Alyx Rossi has been that dominant, and Tewksbury was the Boston College commit’s latest victim on Sunday morning. Bedford (20-1) and Rossi have yet to allow a run all tournament and advance to the Final Four for the second consecutive season. The Bucs will meet No. 2 Hopkinton (20-3). In three state tournament games…

The Red Sox handed the ball to rookie pitcher Hunter Dobbins on Sunday night against the New York Yankees. As if the moment wasn’t already big enough, Dobbins added fuel to the fire with his pregame comments. “This is one that I’ve had circled for a long time,” Dobbins told Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. “I’ve said it before, that if the Yankees were the last team to give me a contract, I’d retire.” His start started shaky when he left a fastball over the heart of the plate to Yankees star right fielder Aaron Judge, who hammered the…
Welcome to the end of the beginning. The Patriots’ mandatory minicamp will open Monday, with all players expected to report for the team’s final three practices this spring. The Pats will hit the field for three straight days, then take a five-week break before returning for the start of training camp in late July. To date, practices have been optional for veterans, while rookies have been working for roughly a month straight since their own minicamp last month. Head coach Mike Vrabel has been reinforcing his new culture daily, instilling habits at practice, in the weight room and during meetings.…
NEW YORK (AP) — Carlos Narváez put Boston ahead with a three-run homer against his former team in the sixth inning, and the Red Sox overcame two home runs by Aaron Judge in an 11-7 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday night.Rafael Devers also went deep as Boston equaled a season high with five longballs to take two of three games at Yankee Stadium in the first series this season between the longtime rivals.Narváez signed with the Yankees in 2015 and broke into the big leagues with them last year, getting into six games before New York traded…
The modern NBA is all about wings who can shoot 3-pointers and defend. You can never have enough of these 3-and-D players who offer scoring, versatility and more. With superstar forward Jayson Tatum potentially missing all of next season recovering from a torn right Achilles, the Celtics could use more wing depth. This roster need would be increased if the team has to trade someone like Sam Hauser in the offseason. Hauser is one of the league’s best 3-point shooters, but with Boston being over the second apron of the luxury tax, shedding salary this offseason might be required. Given…
It’s not unusual to hear a Red Sox fan suggest they’d never play for the Yankees if given the chance. People have been saying that for as long as the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry has existed. But for most fans it’s a pointless hypothetical. Few are actual big league pitchers, and even fewer make such comments publicly the day before making their first career start at Yankee Stadium. Welcome to the rivalry, Hunter. Red Sox right-hander Hunter Dobbins made waves on Saturday when he told the Herald that “if the Yankees were the last team to give me a contract, I’d…
