BOSTON (WHDH) – Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum responded to the team’s shocking trade of forward Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, reflecting on the near decade they spent together in Boston. Tatum posted a tribute to Brown on his Instagram story Friday afternoon, writing, “9 years! Forever grateful for all that we accomplished together, for pushing me to be a better player. From first round exits to winning a chip together I’m thankful for it all. Nothing but love and respect for you as a player and as a person! Looking forward to see how you attack…
We still haven’t heard from Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens on why the organization was so motivated to trade superstar Jaylen Brown. But on Thursday night, Brown shared his side of the story on his Twitch live stream. Nearly 30,000 concurrent viewers watched as Brown addressed the shocking deal that sent him to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George, two first-round draft picks, and two second-round picks. Unsurprisingly, Brown didn’t mince words as he spoke on the trade, the Celtics’ handling of the situation, and some of the media narratives that formed during the process.…
NEW YORK (AP) — Washington Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli and Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras were each issued a seven-game suspension by Major League Baseball on Thursday for their role in a benches-clearing fight between the teams.Nationals pitcher Miles Mikolas (five games) and Red Sox outfielder Nate Eaton (three games) were also suspended by MLB for their actions during the dustup that took place at Fenway Park in the fourth inning of Tuesday night’s game. The four players were also fined an undisclosed amount in the discipline announced by senior vice president of on-field operations Michael Hill. The suspensions were scheduled to begin…
With the playoffs expanded to six teams, it’s not surprising for the final spot to go to a team near .500. Just last year, the Cincinnati Reds won a tiebreaker over the New York Mets to grab the final spot at 83-79. In the good old days (before 2022), the San Diego Padres would have had the final spot at 90-72. The 88-90 win range just feels like an appropriate cutoff. Back in May, Matt outlined why the sixth playoff spot is “an abomination” and why the Red Sox were still very much in the playoff race.Since May 21st, when…
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Although Spain arrived at this year’s World Cup as a championship favorite and then went unbeaten through group play, those first three matches weren’t overly impressive. When the knockout rounds finally arrived Thursday, this star-studded team turned on its full talent and served notice that Spain can be just as good as everybody thought — and it’s probably getting better.Mikel Oyarzabal scored two goals and Spain beat Austria 3-0 for its first World Cup victory in a knockout match since winning the title in 2010.Pedro Porro added a goal in the second half as La Roja put on its…
Five wins in a row. A Yankees sweep. Boston fans already talking themselves into July. It’s not different. The Red Sox are 37-47. They are 13 games back in the AL East. Their playoff odds sit at 23.5%, which is the sports math equivalent of “technically alive.” The standings do not care about your win streak. 37-47. 13 Games Back. Do The Math. Yes, they’re 3.5 games out of the wild card. That number sounds close until you remember they need to leapfrog three teams, hold it through August against a schedule that won’t keep serving up Yankees lineups, and…
The U.S. is easing its restrictions on Iran’s World Cup team, allowing the squad to travel into the country two days before its next match, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday. The team will still be required to leave after Friday’s match in Seattle, a department spokesperson said. A spokesperson for the Iran Football Federation confirmed that the team will leave its base camp in Tijuana, Mexico, on Wednesday for Seattle.“This was planned on our end,” Andrew Giuliani, the executive director of the White House FIFA Task Force, told The Associated Press. “We were going to look at how the first two movements…
Credit: Boston Celtics-Twitter/X When C’s fans see “Brad does it again” in a draft setting, you might assume he drafted a crafty 6’8 3-and-D wing who is slightly raw. This is only partially true this year (he’s missing the “3”).I’ve been excited for this moment since I first signed onto Celtics Nation, recapping the 2026 Draft.Round 1, Pick 27 // Chris Cenac Jr., Center (Houston)I couldn’t have been more excited once Mark Tatum announced this pick. Besides UConn (Roll Skies), Houston might have been my most-viewed college basketball team. I’ve always loved Kelvin Sampson’s system and always feel his players come…
