A prominent NBA insider is doubling down on his reporting that the Celtics are in on Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Ringer’s Bill Simmons said in a new edition of the Bill Simmons Podcast that not only is Boston interested in a trade for the Milwaukee Bucks superstar, they’ve actually made an offer.
“From what I heard, they made an offer in the past week, a couple days before I mentioned it on Thursday,” Simmons said, adding he doesn’t know who was offered in the potential trade.
But he did say he thinks that Giannis wants to go to Boston or Miami, in that order, for the potential to win another championship.
“I think Boston’s going to get Giannis, and I think it will happen in the next week,” Simmons predicted.
Last week, NBA insider Kevin O’Connor, of Yahoo Sports, had also said he’d heard the Celtics were pushing to land Giannis, and that the C’s are willing to part ways with all but one of their players.
And speaking with Simmons on the Bill Simmons Podcast, Zach Lowe also said he’d also be watching for Boston for interest in Giannis.
Simmons’ new comments come after the New York Knicks ended their long championship drought by beating the San Antonio Spurs.
And on Thursday’s Early Edition, Marc Bertrand suggested that competing with both teams is something that Celtics management might be thinking about as they evaluate their roster.
“You’ve got to watch what is playing out right now with the teams that are dominating, whether you want to say it’s the Knicks or it’s the Spurs,” Bertrand said. “Which of those teams are you going to compete with with this current roster? The Knicks have already beaten you once. Are you going to compete against the Spurs with the way this roster is currently constructed?”
