Jayson Tatum appeared at Wednesday’s joint practice between the New England Patriots and Washington Commanders and was seen walking comfortably while wearing a brace to support his surgically repaired left Achilles.

The Boston Celtics superstar is almost three months removed from rupturing his Achilles against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals and on Thursday, he made another public appearance.

Tatum attended Thursday’s groundbreaking of a new early childhood education center in Providence’s Manton Heights neighborhood. Boston Sports Journal’s John Karalis captured video of the moment the 27-year-old walked to his seat.

“Jayson Tatum walks into a community event in Providence,” Karalis posted on Bluesky.

Celtics team president Rich Gotham was also on hand for the event and discussed Tatum’s recovery.

“He’s walking around a little more freely. That’s obviously very encouraging to all of us at the Celtics,” Gotham said, per Karalis. “It’s funny, when you go out to our practice facility, we’re like, ‘Oh, he’s walking today. He doesn’t have a boot on today.’ It’s all little milestones in what’s a pretty grueling process for him, but it’s great to see him out at something like this and giving back to the community.”

According to the Celtics beat writer, this was the six-time All-Star’s first “official public appearance at a team event.”

Tatum has been presumed to be out for the entire 2025-26 season, though some have reported that there’s a chance he could return toward the end of the campaign.
