Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has emerged as a prominent figure in this offseason’s NFL coaching search, generating considerable interest not only in head coaching positions but also in offensive coordinator roles.

McDaniel was scheduled to interview for the Cleveland Browns head coaching position on Wednesday. Still, he chose to withdraw from consideration for the job, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The 42-year-old coach is still in the running for the head coach positions with the Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens, while also being considered for a handful of offensive coordinator roles.

Many head coaching candidates probably aren’t eager to take on the role of head coach for the Browns, given their rough situation, an aging offensive line, and a lack of significant playmakers on offense.

McDaniel likely knows that he is either going to be the head coach of the Ravens or the Raiders, or he will land an offensive coordinator role with a team that has a franchise quarterback and solid offensive players.

The Buffalo Bills have entered the head coaching market following the firing of head coach Sean McDermott on Monday. They may be considering McDaniel among their options, but as of Tuesday night, they have yet to begin releasing names of potential coaching candidates.
