Boston Red Sox starter Garrett Crochet gave up two home runs against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. Both home runs came in the first inning. They were the only two runs the Dodgers scored for the rest of the game.

Crochet’s final line reads six innings, eight hits, 10 strikeouts and two walks. The only extra-base hits he allowed were the two home runs. He generated 20 whiffs across his six innings. After the first inning, he was dominant.

It was a fastball-heavy approach from Crochet, whose four-seam, sinker and cutter accounted for 82% of his pitches. His cutter was particularly effective, returning seven whiffs on 29 pitches.

Despite falling behind in the first inning, the Red Sox rallied back for three runs in the third inning and scored another in the fifth. The bullpen kept the Dodgers off the board after Crochet exited the game and the Red Sox won, 4-2.

A marquee matchup, the game was broadcast nationally on FOX. Crochet talked about the outing and broadcast after the game.

“I made two bad pitches,” Crochet said. “I’ve been watching them on repeat, too. FOX has played them 30 times. You’d think that the Dodgers won tonight.”

While the broadcast might or might not have shown some bias, Crochet’s comments showed how the team is playing with a chip on their shoulder. Even as the team has played well, analysts have predicted the team to sell pieces at the deadline. The team currently holds the third wild card spot and is just a game behind the Yankees in the division.

If the Red Sox keep playing well and hold on to a playoff spot, broadcasters will have no choice but to respect them.
