FOXBORO — Carlton Davis is ready for some football.

After Monday’s practice in Foxboro, the veteran cornerback sounded eager to walk off one field and straight into a game, expressing utmost optimism about the Patriots’ upcoming season.

“It’s about to be lit, bro,” Davis said. “I’m excited for the city, for this team. We’ve been working hard. I’m just ready to go to war with these guys. I’m just excited about what we all can do on that field together.”

Davis has been a regular at practice after missing most of the first two weeks of camp with an unspecified injury. The 28-year-old was among the Patriots’ top additions of the offseason, when he inked a 3-year, $54 million in free agency. Davis is now expected to form one of the NFL’s best cornerback duos with Christian Gonzalez, whom he cited as one of the reasons behind his excitement.

“All the playmakers we’ve got, everything we’ve been doing, for me, has been something that I’m looking forward to come Game 1,” Davis said. “I don’t want to get into specifics, but I am really excited to play alongside guys like Gonzo (Gonzalez), (Robert Spillane), Milton (Williams), everybody. We’ve just got a lot of guys, a lot of dogs out there.”

In addition to a restocked roster, Davis also mentioned coach Mike Vrabel, and how the accountability in his program has mirrored some of the most successful teams Davis has played for before; a list that includes the 2020 Super Bowl champion Buccaneers.

“The players are part of it, but then how the organization and practice are being run, that’s another thing,” Davis said. “Because we can have the guys, but if you’re not running it the right way, it might not work. I’m excited to play for Mike and how he’s running the show, how he’s holding us accountable for everything, anybody, including myself. I really appreciate that in a coach.

“I really appreciate how he treats everything the same. When you bring a team like that, you usually have success behind it.”
