The Boston Celtics may already have a serious injury concern before they’ve even tipped off the regular season.

Celtics star Jaylen Brown suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s preseason finale on Wednesday night and while he was able to practice on Friday, his status for opening night is still in question.

“Joe Mazzulla said Jaylen Brown was able to do everything but the live portion of practice today” Jay King of The Athletic posted on X.

“Joe Mazzulla says Jaylen Brown ‘was able to do everything but the live stuff’ in practice today. He says Jaylen is day-to-day, so no indication yet if he’ll be ready for opening night,” The Boston Sports Journal’s John Karalis added on Bluesky.

Brown underwent knee surgery in June but has been progressing and was expected to be ready for the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

If Boston is to have any shot at meeting or exceeding its expectations this season, the team will need a healthy “JB.”

Brown will turn 29 years old on Oct. 24 and will have to take on an even bigger load this fall without sidekick Jayson Tatum on the court with him.

The four-time All-Star was second on the Celtics in points (22.2) and minutes per game (34.3) last season, trailing only Tatum.

Brown’s field goal percentage (.463) was the worst since his rookie campaign, however, and his three-point field goal percentage (.324) was the lowest of his career.

The University of California product was recently placed 19th on ESPN’s “NBA Rank”, counting down the top 100 players in the Association ahead of the 2025-26 season.
