For the 17th consecutive season, the New York Yankees will not win the World Series! They got swept. They never led in any of the games. It wasn’t close. The end!

This particular Yankee Elimination Day was still a little extra juicy though because nearly 30 years to the day after the Jeffrey Maier incident — in which the Yankees incorrectly got a game tying home run from a middle infielder — the Yankees had a game tying homer from a middle infielder correctly taken off the board because of fan interference.

And by the way, how is it that nearly every single October there’s some storyline about Yankee fans interfering with balls in play? This thing last night was even tame by comparison to some of the others. Who cold forget Austin Capobianco’s quotes following Mookie Betts getting his glove ripped out of his hand?

“I patrol that wall and they know that. If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up. We talk about it. We’re willing to do this.”

In any case, it’s a glorious October day, and even though we still have a dark and ugly winter ahead, we can indulge in some good cheer after this sensational news! The Rays certainly did last night.

Use this space to talk about some of your favorite Yankee eliminations over the years, and to everybody here, enjoy our special day!
