Ever since a meeting with reporters in the spring of 2020 that didn’t quite go the way he wanted, Red Sox principal owner John Henry has been elusive. Outside of an occasional email to Business Insider or an on-stage appearance at a fan event that featured far too much booing for Henry to handle or a rogue tweet sent to Dan Shaughnessy, the public at large has not heard directly from Henry in a long time.

Yet for one brief moment, that did change this week — even if Henry wasn’t exactly interested in participating.

Just a minute before the 6 p.m. trade deadline on Monday, NBC10 Boston’s Griffin Gonzalez ran into Henry, who was … admiring a plaque on the facade of Fenway Park on Jersey Street.

Gonzalez asked Henry a simple question: “You feeling good about the moves today?”

Henry responded with one word: “Very.”

With that, the media silence has been broken. Technically speaking, that is the truth.

Of course, the response of “very” didn’t really show how Henry felt about Craig Breslow trading away three of the organization’s top-five prospects, not did it indicate Henry’s reaction to the dealing away of Marcelo Mayer, who was the team’s No. 1 prospect just two years ago.

Yet with the Red Sox riding a 28-5 stretch over their last 33 games and adding an impact player like Adley Rutschman, Henry at least indicated that he’s feeling good.

    Very good, actually.
