Jordan Harris is thrilled he signed a one-year deal with the Boston Bruins.

When Harris hit free agency on July 1, he wasn’t sure where he was going to go. But when the Bruins showed interest in him, he knew he would sign with Boston.

Harris is from Haverhill, Mass., and getting to play for his hometown team was something he couldn’t pass up.

“I was really excited when I heard Boston could be a possibility,” Harris recently said to BostonBruins.com. “I told my parents and everything once I found out. They were so pumped – my whole family, buddies.”

Harris signed a one-year, $825,000 deal with the Bruins to compete for a roster spot.

“Honestly, being able to put the jersey on for the first time was probably the coolest part of the whole thing,” Harris added. “It is surreal. I grew up watching the B’s since I was four years old. It’s really cool to be part of it now.”

The 25-year-old has survived the first wave of cuts, as he remains with the NHL team as training camp comes to a close.

As Harris has been trying to earn a roster spot, he has impressed Bruins coach Marco Sturm.

“He definitely stepped up from game one to game two. Moved his feet, always had a good stick,” Sturm said. “It helps a lot when a player can skate and trust his skating. I think he’s one of them. There are a few little things I think we just have to work on, but overall, he had a really good performance [on Saturday] and hopefully he can build on that.”

Harris has skated in 164 career NHL games, recording 9 goals and 28 assists for 37 points. He spent last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets after the Montreal Canadiens traded him.
