Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has officially made up his mind about where his NFL career will take him next. McDaniel will be joining the Los Angeles Chargers as their offensive coordinator beginning in 2026.

McDaniel’s coaching journey began in 2005 as a Denver Broncos intern, followed by assistant positions with the Houston Texans, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, and Atlanta Falcons. He joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, advancing to run game coordinator and then offensive coordinator in 2021, contributing to a dynamic offense.

In February 2022, McDaniel became head coach of the Dolphins, leading them to a 9-8 record and playoffs in his debut season. The 2023 campaign saw an 11-6 mark and another postseason berth, though both ended in wild-card losses. Challenges mounted in 2024 and 2025, with records of 9-8 and 6-11 amid injuries and inconsistencies, culminating in his dismissal on January 8, 2026, after a 35-33 overall tally.

In Los Angeles, McDaniel reuniting with a scheme-focused role under Jim Harbaugh to bolster quarterback Justin Herbert’s attack.
