Marcus Jones is officially the greatest punt returner in NFL history.

The New England Patriots star immediately made his mark on Monday’s 33-15 win over the New York Giants. On the Giants’ first punt of the game in the first quarter, Jones returned it 94 yards for a jaw-dropping touchdown, extending the Patriots’ lead to 10-0 with his second punt return score of the season.

It was the 75th punt return of Jones’ career, enough to qualify for the NFL record books. His career average of 14.6 yards per return is now officially the highest in NFL history (min. 75 returns).

Marcus Jones needed one more return to qualify as having the highest point return average in league history.

Jones’ career average was already the highest in NFL history before the touchdown, but his spectacular 94-yard return made it official. Nobody else is particularly close, as the two players tied for second place averaged 12.8 yards per return and retired during the 1950s.

He returned two other punts in the game for 17 yards and 13 yards, showcasing his elite ability on special teams.

The 27-year-old former All-Pro now has six career touchdowns with three on special teams, two on defense and one on offense, making him the only NFL player since his debut in 2022 with a touchdown in all three areas. His three non-offensive touchdowns this year lead the NFL, as do his two punt return touchdowns.

Jones’ contributions in multiple facets, including special teams, are a big reason why New England has the best record in the NFL this year. He’ll look to continue his impressive campaign following the team’s Week 14 bye.
