The New England Patriots made a series of roster transactions on Tuesday.
New England announced that offensive lineman Brenden Jaimes was signed to the active roster from the practice squad, defensive lineman Joshua Farmer was placed on injured reserve, running back Elijah Mitchell and wide receiver Brandon Smith was signed to the practice squad, and offensive lineman Sebastian Gutierrez was released from the practice squad — which might be the heftiest shuffle made all season.
Jaimes, 26, becomes an extremely valuable piece after injuries — Jared Wilson (concussion), Morgan Moses (knee) and Thayer Munford Jr. (knee) — caused major shuffling along the offensive line during Sunday’s win over the Baltimore Ravens. Jaimes was elevated twice earlier this season.
Mitchell, 27, was a sixth-round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft, and became something of a fantasy football darling after running for 963 yards in just 11 games during his rookie season, before tapering off when injuries hit in 2022 and 2024. The Kansas City Chiefs signed him this offseason, but recently released the veteran from his contract to allow him another opportunity.
The Patriots needed to add another depth piece to their running back room, as TreVeyon Henderson (concussion) also went down on Sunday.

Smith, 27, has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets since entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa in 2021.
