The Red Sox entered the night 1.5 games up in the Wild Card standings and found themselves down 1.0 runs in the middle innings… and they recovered, thanks to a Jarren Duran homer that put them up 4-3 and set them on the path to victory. Once they hit the eighth inning, the dam broke — seven runs! — and shit was no longer close, but then it was, but then it was over, and the Sox won. And there was much rejoicing.

All they need to do is get in the ‘yoffs, and now they’re one step closer. LFG.

Three Studs

Jarren Duran

All he did was win the game for them, which TBH seems important and to which we’ll get below. That he added an insurance hit later on was just a cherry on top.

Garrett Crochet

It wasn’t the greatest Crochet day, but it wasn’t the worst, and we can ultimately live with 3 runs over 6 innings if we’re any good on offense. Which, because of the guys above and below, we were.

Ceddanne Rafaela

If you go 3-4 and play defense like he does, you’re doing as much as anyone can do who doesn’t go 4-4.

Three Duds

Chris Murphy

He gave up a grand slam in the ninth inning to make it 11-7. He then gave up two singles. Then he struck Josh Lowe to end it. It was not fun in the least.

Trevor Story

0-5 with 2Ks is no way to go thru life, son, even if you did reach on an error once the game was out of reach. Until Chris touched it.

Carlos Narvaez

See above. His stat line was close enough.

Play of the Game

That would be Duran’s go-ahead, ultimately game-winning dongation, despite everything that followed:

A HUGE no-doubt homer off the bat of Jarren Duran gives the @RedSox the lead 😤
