The Boston Red Sox have been looking for an impact bat to add to their lineup after losing Alex Bregman to the Chicago Cubs.

However, they have failed to land one yet. They had a rumored interest in Eugenio Suárez and Brendan Donovan, but they are no longer available. They have also been linked to Isaac Paredes in trade rumors, and Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown spoke on Paredes current situation.

“Right now, both of them are still part of our roster and we have plans for both of them to play. Right now, our plan is for both of them to be there,” Brown said when asked if he envisions Paredes and Christian Walker on the team when they get to camp, per The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.

He did not shut the door on Paredes being traded, but he said the team does have a plan for him and envisions him on the team. Houston may not be too eager to trade him, and may rather trade Walker to have Paredes move back to first base.

If Paredes is not available, the Red Sox’s options to upgrade are limited. They seem focused on infielders as they look for an impact bat, which makes sense given the surplus of outfielders they already have.

They could look to trade for Matt Shaw or Nico Hoerner from the Cubs, who could be willing to part with one of them now that they have Bregman.

If the Red Sox do not add an infielder, Marcelo Mayer figures to start the season at third base with a platoon of Romy Gonzalez and David Hamilton at second base. Kristian Campbell is also an option at second base, but he seemingly needs more time in Triple-A.
