The Boston Red Sox made an under-the-radar move in the middle of August, signing Nathaniel Lowe after the Washington Nationals released him.

Lowe is an impactful veteran who has playoff experience, so Boston jumped at the chance to bring him in. Since signing with the Red Sox, Lowe has made an impact offensively, and manager Alex Cora is impressed with him.

In Boston’s 4-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, Lowe went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks.

“He’s been grinding, that’s part of it,” Cora said, via MLB.com. “The other day, it didn’t go his way, but this is a guy who has been there, done that, and has a World Series ring to show it, and we trust him.”

Since signing with the Red Sox, Lowe has hit .286 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 29 games.

Following Lowe’s heroics on Tuesday, the veteran felt like he finally got some good swings, which helped the Red Sox take the series opener against the Blue Jays.

“I was really happy to put some good swings on some good pitches to hit tonight, obviously get some runs across,” Lowe said on the NESN broadcast after Tuesday’s game. “We are really happy with the result.”

With the win, Boston improved to 86-71 and held onto the second Wild Card spot. The Red Sox’s magic number to clinch a playoff series was three following Tuesday’s games.
