Boston Red Sox prospect Jhostynxon Garcia is known for his creative nickname, “The Password.”

Turns out, the 22-year-old outfielder had the right combination to unlock a promotion for himself.

The Red Sox on Sunday moved up Garcia from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Worcester, according to MassLive’s Christopher Smith and Beyond The Monster’s Andrew Parker. Garcia is expected to join Worcester starting Tuesday.

Garcia is ranked as Boston’s fifth-best prospect by MLB Pipeline and had a solid start to the season with Portland. The right-handed hitter batted .256 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 33 games. Garcia wasn’t on a scorching stretch as of late to get called up, hitting .105 (2-for-19) in his last five games.

Garcia really took off last season when he climbed three levels in the Red Sox farm system. He finished the 2024 campaign batting .286 and showed off his power by clubbing 23 home runs to go along with 66 RBIs.

The Red Sox made sure to protect Garcia, who the organization signed as an international free agent from Venezuela in 2019, this offseason when they added him to the 40-man roster.

“Good swing,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters of Garcia prior to the season, per Smith. “He moves in the outfield, too. He’s a big dude, but he moves.”

The promotion now puts Garcia just one step away from achieving a lofty goal he set for himself before this season started.

“My goal is ultimately to have at least a couple games toward the end of the year in the big leagues,” Garcia told Smith through translator Daveson Perez.
