The Boston Red Sox still haven’t signed a Major League free agent this offseason, but they did sign another Minor League one on Thursday.

According to MILB Central’s Chase Ford, the Red Sox reportedly signed outfielder Matt Fraizer to a Minor League deal on Thursday.

Fraizer, who turns 28 later this month, was a third-round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019. He remained with the Pirates organization through 2025, appearing for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians in each of the last two seasons.

The Boston Red Sox have signed OF Matt Fraizer to a minor league deal.

Fraizer had a .305 batting average along with 22 extra-base hits this past season playing in the Pirates organization.#RedSox

Fraizer’s second stint in Triple-A went much better than his first, as he improved his OPS from .730 to .813. In 62 games for the Indians last year, he batted .305/.361/.452 with 22 extra-base hits and 14 steals in 16 tries.

Based on that performance, Fraizer appears ready for the big leagues. Boston may not have room for him at the Major League level, however, given its current logjam of outfielders. Accordingly, he’ll likely serve as organizational depth unless an outfielder gets hurt or traded.

In the meantime, he’ll probably be assigned to Triple-A Worcester so that he can keep getting regular time, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him up in the Major Leagues at some point this season.
