The New England Patriots earned a big playoff victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night, and once again, all eyes are on the Pats. Everyone is weighing in on their return to the forefront of the NFL, including former star cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Many folks were expecting the Pats and Chargers to engage in a shootout, but instead, both offenses struggled to put points on the board. New England’s defense, instead, took this game over in the second half, helping the team advance to the divisional round of the 2025 NFL Playoffs.

One guy who helped the Patriots out on the defensive side of the ball during the second half of their dynasty was Gilmore, who was arguably the best cornerback in the league during his time with the team. While New England’s rise has been generally well-received, thanks to the overwhelming popularity of Drake Maye, Gilmore thinks it will wear off quickly.

“People probably hot that the patriots back so fast. lol,” Gilmore wrote in a post on X.

During their long-running dynasty with Tom Brady under center and Bill Belichick on the sidelines, the Patriots were hated by pretty much everyone who did not live in the New England region. And just a couple of years after their most recent Super Bowl victory, it looks like the Pats mean business once again.

New England still has a lot of work to do, though, after taking down Los Angeles. The team will now turn its attention to the divisional round, where it will square off against either the Pittsburgh Steelers or Houston Texans.
