Yandy Díaz reportedly has some fans at Four Jersey Street.
The Boston Red Sox, as you’re all well aware, are among the most interesting teams as we approach the trade deadline, having ripped off three consecutive series sweeps prior to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.
It’s all but certain they’ll add reinforcements over the coming weeks, and one team insider claims they have eyes on a division rival.
MassLive’s Chris Cotillo broke down the different avenues the franchise could explore on Wednesday, providing some sourced context on a number of different topics. Díaz’s name came up when discussing potential lineup upgrades, as the Tampa Bay Rays leadoff man reportedly is “high on the wish list” of some decision-makers.
Romy González and Abraham Toro, of course, have done a fine job platooning at first base since Triston Casas went down with a season-ending injury on May 2, which is why the club reportedly could stand pat at the position. Díaz would undoubtedly be an upgrade, however, giving the team some reliability at a position where injuries and inconsistencies have plagued them for half a decade.

The Rays are an interesting team to potentially do business with, too. Tampa Bay has routinely been among the quickest to get out from under guaranteed money, but there’s a though the organization could look to contend one final time before their sale ultimately goes through.
Díaz, who is slashing .285/.339/.454 with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs in 2025, would undoubtedly help them do that, but if things continue to go south in the coming weeks, he will be available.
