The Boston Red Sox are promoting their top prospect… again.
Payton Tolle, who elevated into becoming the organization’s top prospect following the graduations of Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer, has been promoted to Triple-A Worcester, according to Andrew Parker of Beyond the Monster
Tolle has been dominant in six appearances for Double-A Portland, collecting a 1.67 ERA with 37 strikeouts across 27 total innings. The Red Sox evidently saw enough to give him his second promotion of the season, which opens up the door — albeit slightly — for the left-hander to make his debut in 2025.
Yes, that’s on the table.
It’s firmly on the table, as a matter of fact, as the 22-year-old could follow a similar path as two of his predecessors in Boston — Chris Sale and Garrett Crochet. I’ve laid out the details before, but the idea would be allowing him to work out of the bullpen at the big league level before developing him as a start later on.

Boston has its sights set on the postseason, and perhaps no one in the organization could help more than Tolle.
We shall see if that idea comes to fruition, but at the very least, the kid is one step closer.
