Boston Bruins forward Viktor Arvidsson got the money off his back on Saturday.

The Bruins traded for Arvidsson in the offseason to add more secondary scoring to the lineup. Through nine games, Arvidsson had yet to score, despite having plenty of chances.

On Saturday, with less than six minutes to go in the first period with Boston trailing the Colorado Avalanche 1-0, Arvidsson scored his first of the season. The forward scored from behind the net as he shot it off the back of Scott Wedgewood. Although it wasn’t the prettiest goal, Arvidsson said, getting his first of the season was a major ‘relief’.

“Just relief,” Arvidsson said, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “I think I’ve been all over it and shooting a lot. It was nice to see it finally go in. I thought our line was playing the last three or four games and had been creating and scoring. It just hadn’t been me who had the last touch. It was nice to have it today.”

Arvidsson’s goal was the first of three straight for the Bruins, who rallied for a 3-2 win to snap their six-game losing streak.

The Avalanche are one of the top teams in the NHL, and Bruins star goalie Jeremy Swayman believes the win is something the team can build on.

“It feels good to beat one of the top teams in the League,” Swayman said. “To get it done at home shows the resiliency we have in this locker room and it’s something we can really build on.”

Boston will now go on the road to play the Ottawa Senators on Monday.
