Philip Rivers turned heads by coming out of retirement this week to rejoin the Indianapolis Colts, whom he played his most recent NFL game for nearly five years ago.

Rivers, who just turned 44 on Monday, has been practicing with the Colts this week, potentially putting him in line to start Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Tom Brady knows about coming out of retirement and playing at that age. The New England Patriots legend famously unretired after the 2021 campaign, coming back to play one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at age 45 in 2022.

Brady hasn’t played an NFL game in almost three years and is 48 now, prompting Colin Cowherd to ask him whether he could still play and “generate drives” if a team asked him to.

“Yes, I certainly could,” Brady said. “I think the answer for me would be yes.”

However, Brady clarified that as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, he’s now prohibited from unretiring and playing in the NFL.

If Brady could play, he would tie George Blanda as the oldest player in NFL history.

“This game is about, for the quarterback, from the neck up,” Brady said. “That doesn’t really go away. That’s still up there. Do you still have the physical ability to still do it, take the hits, make the throws.”

Brady is still in good shape and has decades of NFL experience to rely on, so he could probably hang in there. He’d also take the assignment seriously and do everything possible to study and prepare.

While Brady has likely played his last NFL game, his former teammate Rob Gronkowski recently revealed what it would take for him to come out of retirement.
