Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm couldn’t have turned down the opportunity… even if he wanted to.

Sturm obviously has history with the franchise, having spent five memorable seasons playing for it after being acquired in the trade that sent Joe Thornton to the San Jose Sharks. It’s not just his familiarity that played a role in him wanting the gig, though, it’s his family’s.

“They’ve been bugging me for a while to get a place in Boston,” Sturm said on Tuesday, as seen on NESN. “They grew up here — my kids grew up here — and they always wanted to come back. And here I am. Now they’ve got their wish.”

It’s a full-circle moment for everyone involved, with the hope being that this tenure is even more successful than the last. Sturm’s love and admiration for not only the organization, but the city, shone throughout his first day on the job.

“I got here late (Monday) from Florida. I was coming in late and I drove my rental car to the hotel, and I was looking around downtown and I was like, ‘I can’t believe I got the best job in this city,’” Marco Sturm said on “Felger & Mazz.”

“It’s not the easiest one, but I do believe I got the best job here, and I just can’t believe it. For me, a dream came true. And again, obviously, I want to be a head coach. It doesn’t matter where at, but this is special.”

The Bruins will be glad to hear it, and are certainly psyched to have him back.
