Will Campbell’s Patriots education is already well underway, and it goes far beyond what is drawn up on the whiteboard.

The New England Patriots’ first-round pick is soaking in as much as he can from everyone around him. From veteran coaches like Josh McDaniels and Doug Marrone to experienced teammates on both sides of the ball, Campbell is learning what it takes to succeed at football’s highest level.

Through organized team activities and minicamp, the 21-year-old LSU product has impressed. He has taken reps with a unit resembling the starting offensive line while managing to hold his own against the Patriots’ top defensive front. While he has had moments that showed his inexperience — Milton Williams overwhelmed him on one snap Tuesday — Campbell continues to earn praise for his work ethic and steady progress.

“Big Will, he’s done a great job,” quarterback Drake Maye told Christopher Price of the Boston Globe.

Campbell’s commitment to improvement has also caught the eye of veteran tackle Morgan Moses. During spring practices, Campbell frequently sought out Moses for advice. Their lockers are side by side, and Campbell regularly asks to review pass sets or talk through technique.

Pass rusher Keion White, who often lines up across from Campbell, said the rookie has already shown growth. “Very early on, he was struggling,” White said, “but he’s not afraid to ask questions or to be bad. He made adjustments and kept working on his technique.”

“He’s eager to learn,” Moses said. “He’s a stud who played great in college. Now it’s about fine-tuning and adjusting to the NFL.”

Campbell credited Moses, Mike Onwenu, and Garrett Bradbury for supporting the young linemen. He’s also leaned on veterans like Christian Barmore and Harold Landry, who have shared defensive insights.

For Campbell, the focus heading into training camp is clear.

“Just coming back and being a better player than I am today,” he said.
