FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) – A furry member of the Gillette Stadium groundskeeping team has a very important job to do during the Patriots’ playoff run this winter. Gillette Stadium Field Superintendent Ryan Bjorn and his wife adopted Boyd and trained him to be a goose-chasing dog. The 11-year-old Border Collie, Husky mix is now responsible for keeping geese away from the stadium’s fields. While geese don’t tend to land on Gillette’s main field due to the artificial turf, Bjorn said the birds can cause trouble on the team’s practice fields.“We have six natural grass practice fields here at the stadium,…

The 2026 NFL Draft is expected to lack top-tier quarterbacks, which could lead to a flurry of veteran quarterbacks changing teams this offseason. One signal-caller who is expected to draw considerable attention on the trade market is Mac Jones. Jones signed a two-year contract worth $8.4 million with the 49ers this offseason. With Brock Purdy established as San Francisco’s starting quarterback, the 49ers may consider trading Jones. With the limited number of quarterbacks in free agency, Jones could potentially bring in a significant amount of draft capital. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, it’s likely that Jones could yield a…
In his brief NFL career to date, Drake Maye has been compared to plenty of quarterbacks, from Josh Allen to Justin Herbert to, yes, Tom Brady. Joe Buck is adding another name to that list, and it’s a bit surprising at first glance. The ESPN play-by-play announcer, who will be calling Sunday afternoon’s AFC Divisional Round clash between the New England Patriots and Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium, joined our Patriots Insider Phil Perry on the Next Pats Podcast and admitted he got Peyton Manning vibes from Maye during a recent production call with the young QB. “When he was…
By DAVE SKRETTA It was at a relatively minor event in upstate New York in September 2022 that Ilia Malinin, the self-anointed “Quad God” who was fast becoming the biggest name in figure skating, finally landed the jump that so many people had thought impossible. Others had tried quad axels in competition over the years. All of them had fallen. That extra 180 degrees of rotation — necessary for the only jump in skating that starts with a forward-facing entry — proved to be a half-revolution too much. So when Malinin landed it inside the arena made famous by the…
By ILLIA NOVIKOV CHERNIHIV, Ukraine (AP) — Young athletes in northern Ukraine spend their days cross-country skiing through a scorched forest, focused on their form — until a siren inevitably shatters the silence. They respond swiftly but without panic, ditching their skis and following coaches to an underground bomb shelter. It’s an ordinary training session at the complex that produced Ukraine’s first Olympic medalist. Sleeping children no longer dream of Olympic glory in the facility’s bombed-out dormitories, and unexploded ordnance has rendered nearby land off limits. But about 350 kids and teens — some of the nation’s best young cross-country…
It was announced earlier this week that the New York Giants would be signing former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to fill the team’s head coaching vacancy. Harbaugh is considered by many to be the best head coach on the market, and with eight teams looking to fill vacancies, there was a league-wide sweepstakes to see who would land the biggest fish. Wednesday, it was reported that Harbaugh and the Giants had reached an agreement, and the Super Bowl-winning coach would become the head guy for New York. Two days later, the two parties still have not been able…
Good morning! Kyle Tucker signed a massive free agent deal with the Dodgers last night. Don’t waste your breath arguing that this is bad for baseball. It isn’t. There is no evidence whatsoever that the Dodgers are causing fans to lose interest in the sport. In fact, the evidence suggests that they are increasing interest on both the national and international scale. So with that out of the way, onto the important question: how does this affect us? The Mets lost out on an outfielder. The Red Sox have outfielders. In fact, they have one who has arguably outproduced Tucker over…
Mike Loughnane saw the pictures growing up and heard the stories from his father. And Loughnane didn’t pass up the chance to ask his dad about Jim Calhoun whenever he saw the legendary coach on TV. Loughnane’s father, Bill, had a special connection to Calhoun, having played for the Naismith Hall of Famer from 1976-80 at Northeastern and serving as a captain for the Huskies in his senior year. Five decades later, Loughnane has stepped into his father’s shoes. The decision to transfer from Davidson to Northeastern last April didn’t just ensure a homecoming for Loughnane, who is a Quincy…

The New England Patriots will likely be looking to strengthen their defensive line in the offseason, and The Athletic’s Dane Brugler has an ideal fit for them. Brugler released his first NFL mock draft since the conclusion of the regular season, predicting that the Patriots will select Miami pass rusher Akheem Mesidor at pick 30. “Yes, Mesidor is older (he’ll turn 25 in April), but he won’t need a ramp-up period as a rookie — Mike Vrabel could wind him up and cut him loose on Day 1,” Brugler wrote on Thursday. “New England ranked in the bottom third of…
