The Boston Red Sox have reportedly shown interest in free agent slugger Eugenio Suarez. Boston is searching for a bat to help build out its lineup, and Suarez’s name has come up as a potential fit. However, Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo reported on Saturday that the team’s interest in Suarez isn’t as strong as other free agents. “Red Sox have been in touch with Eugenio Suarez but sources indicate their interest in him has been lukewarm to this point,” Cotillo wrote on X on Saturday. “Not at the stage of offering. Could be related to Alex Bregman pursuit. “Suarez…

RANDOLPH – Whenever a program graduates many key players, it can take a few years to rebuild. For Braintree’s boys hockey team, a winning tradition remains intact with leaders like Matt Morelli. The senior defenseman sniped a pair of goals, including the game-clincher in overtime Saturday, as the Wamps opened their season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Bay State Conference rival Walpole. “We’re all just a really tight group of kids,” Morelli said. “We don’t have a lot of superstars on our team, but we’re all just bought in to what the coaches are telling us, day in and…

FOXBORO — Undrafted rookie outside linebacker Elijah Ponder has been a late riser for the Patriots this season. The rookie free agent, who came to the Patriots out of Cal Poly, has three sacks in his last four games. Ponder has seen his playing time increase since the Patriots traded Keion White to the 49ers in October, and he’s made the most of those opportunities with sacks against the Buccaneers, Jets and Giants. Ponder has 10 total pressures, including seven hurries, this season. This summer, he was called “probably one of the best (undrafted) free agent pickups” that Patriots outside…

It’s no secret that the Boston Celtics need another center. Neemias Queta has been excellent since moving into the starting lineup, but the lack of depth in the middle of the court has seen Joe Mazzulla lean into a small-ball rotation with his second unit. Ideally, the Celtics would add a starting-level center and move Queta to the bench. Finding an elite big man to anchor the roster for the next five or more years is easier said than done, though. One player who has been floated as a potential target is LA Clippers center Ivica Zubac. The Clippers are…

It’s almost as if Mike Vrabel spoke this season into existence. Win the division. Host playoff games. Compete for championships. Vrabel first voiced his goals at his introductory press conference in mid-January, the honeymoon phase of his honeymoon phase as the Patriots’ head coach. In that same press conference, Vrabel also said he wasn’t sure if the Patriots were even good enough to “take advantage of bad football.” He was right to feel that way about a franchise coming off consecutive four-win seasons and suffering from organizational rot. Now, how long ago does that feel? The Patriots can clinch a…

A lot has changed for the New England Patriots since Tom Brady left after the 2019 season, but some things are still the same. One of those things is the offensive coordinator, as Josh McDaniels is still calling plays for the Patriots on the sidelines. Now in his third stint as New England’s offensive coordinator, McDaniels is still good friends with Brady, who discussed him and Drake Maye in an interview with Colin Cowherd this week. So far, the seven-time Super Bowl champ loves everything he’s seen from and heard about Maye. “Josh McDaniels is still one of my great…
