Jeremy Swayman atoned for some shaky moments in the second period with some big stops in the third period and overtime that included a Philadelphia Flyers power play but he couldn’t quite finish the job in the shootout. Bobby Brink scored the lone goal in the skills competition to lift the Flyers to a 3-2 victory in preseason action at TD Garden on Monday. Swayman got better as the game went on while David Pastrnak, who missed the first few days of training camp with knee tendinitis, looked a lot like his old self in the loss. The B’s got…

BOSTON (WHDH) – An unwelcome message on Ticketmaster for Red Sox fans. The ticketing company alerted buyers that only fans from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania will be granted access to buy tickets for the American League Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium this week. Local Red Sox fans will get their tickets cancelled without notice and refunded, and they’ll have to get their tickets another way. “I feel bad for people from Massachusetts because they are obviously the real Red Sox fans,” said one fan Monday. “Born and raised Red Sox fan, I want to go so…

The Boston Celtics made several roster changes this offseason, which left star guard Jaylen Brown feeling disheartened about parting ways with teammates he had built relationships with over the years. “It’s a little bit sad, you know, a lot of the guys I spent a lot of time with,” Brown said Monday, via Celtics on CLNS. “We got five new players that we gotta get on boarded. So you guys can see like a really good product when we get to the floor.” Boston traded guard Jrue Holiday and forward Kristaps Porzingis, and allowed centers Al Horford and Luke Kornet…

Celtics star Jaylen Brown isn’t approaching this season any differently than he did the previous nine. He isn’t concerned with the “media narratives,” including those who label him as Boston’s No. 1 option now that Jayson Tatum will start the season on the sideline. “Obviously, it’s going to be different with JT not on the floor, but in terms of how I approach things, it’s no different,” Brown said when he joined NBC Sports Boston’s live stream during Celtics Media Day on Monday. Brown believes there’s one area of his game he’ll be able showcase more, though. “I think my…

The theme of last season’s Celtics team was continuity. This year, it’s change. Change on the roster, with Boston turning over roughly half of its rotation this offseason. Change in expectations; for the first time this decade, the Celtics are not viewed as NBA championship contenders. And, as multiple players teased Monday at media day, a change in play style aimed at maximizing a roster that is not nearly as deep or star-studded as the ones the franchise fielded for the past several seasons. “I think we have a lot of guys that are unproven, so with that comes great…

The NFL’s first scheduling change of the 2025 season affects the New England Patriots. New England will now play the New Orleans Saints at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 12. The Week 6 matchup was originally scheduled to start at 4:25 p.m. ET, but the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take that slot. The Patriots probably aren’t at fault for the switch. They’ve started 2-2 under Mike Vrabel behind some encouraging performances from Drake Maye, who’s posted a 109.4 quarterback rating. The Saints, on the other hand, are the NFC’s only winless team. They rank 26th…

The fact that the injured Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer will not be in the dugout for the Red Sox playoff run in 2025 — the season that was supposed to be The Year of the Big Three — is devastating. (It sucks that Kristian Campbell won’t be in there, either, but that’s for other reasons.) But Anthony, at least, is still trying to get back on the field, and he’ll head to Fort Myers as part of a group of injured players who will continue their rehab down south. Don’t get your hopes up, though — there is no…

Right on the eve of the postseason, the Red Sox pitching staff appears to have suffered a big blow. Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced Monday that right-hander Lucas Giolito will not be on the club’s AL Wild Card roster due to an elbow issue. Instead, Giolito flew to Alabama to see Dr. Jeffrey Dugas, who performed his internal brace surgery on his pitching elbow in the spring of 2024. “Lucas isn’t going to be on the roster, he’s been battling with his elbow the last few days and today he went to see Dr. Dugas,” Cora told reporters in…
