When Bruins training camp began, few would have viewed Jeffrey Viel as a player that had much of a shot to make the Boston roster. And considering where Bruins’ management targeted its spending in the offseason – signing three established bottom six players in Tanner Jeannot, Sean Kuraly and Mikey Eyssimont, all of whom have had a good preseason – he probably doesn’t. But while Viel remains up against long odds in terms of making the varsity, it is not because he hasn’t put his best foot forward. The 28-year-old journeyman forward, who has played 54 NHL games and 349…
BOSTON (WHDH) – An unwelcome message on Ticketmaster for Red Sox fans. The ticketing company alerted buyers that only fans from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania will be granted access to buy tickets for the American League Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium this week. Local Red Sox fans will get their tickets cancelled without notice and refunded, and they’ll have to get their tickets another way. “I feel bad for people from Massachusetts because they are obviously the real Red Sox fans,” said one fan Monday. “Born and raised Red Sox fan, I want to go so…
Red Sox manager Alex Cora might have to get creative with the season on the line. That’s the reality with veteran right-hander Lucas Giolito sidelined due to an elbow injury. Giolito was left off the team’s American League Wild Card roster before the best-of-three playoff series against the Yankees. Giolito was expected to start either Game 2 or Game 3, but that’s no longer the case. Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet will start Game 1 against Yankees lefty Max Fried while right-hander Brayan Bello will get the ball in Game 2 opposite left-hander Carlos Rodón. “We’ll go the first two…
The New England Patriots made a statement in Week 4 with a 42-13 blowout victory over the Carolina Panthers, and it appears to be a result that the rest of the league has taken note of heading into Week 5. After falling behind 6-0 early in the game, the Pats rattled off 42 unanswered points before the Panthers scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Considering how sloppy New England played in their Week 4 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, it was encouraging to see such a ruthlessly efficient performance from them this time around. The Patriots were viewed…
NEW YORK — The Red Sox roster for this week’s AL Wild Card series is officially set. Young left-handers Connelly Early, Kyle Harrison and Payton Tolle are among the 12 pitchers who will be available when the Red Sox face the Yankees this week at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox will also carry 14 position players, including two catchers and a five-player bench. Right-hander Lucas Giolito, who Alex Cora announced yesterday is dealing with elbow soreness, is not on the roster. Neither is lefty Chris Murphy, who was optioned on Sunday and is not yet eligible to be recalled, nor…
All week, Mike Vrabel’s message to the Patriots was get back to basics. Well, how about back to butt-kicking? The Patriots whooped the Panthers on Sunday, out-coaching and out-playing them in a way they hadn’t beaten anyone in almost four years. Marcus Jones powered them with a 87-yard punt return touchdown, then teed up another score with a 61-yard return minutes before halftime. Without Jones, the Pats don’t dominate like they did. But that, of course, wasn’t all. The Patriots’ offense almost matched its explosive play total from Weeks 1-3 and went a perfect 4-of-4 on trips inside the red…
A part of me is impressed that the Yankees even continued as a going concern following the 2004 ALCS, in which they succumbed to an epically embarrassing collapse the likes of which we will never see again in the history of professional sports. They probably should’ve folded up shop right there on the spot after the final out of that series, knowing that they sullied their once proud name for good, and did so in such an embarrassing way that even their grandchildren would be forced to live with a lifetime of shame. But they didn’t! The Yankees kept playing baseball…
Over the course of six hours on Monday, the Celtics held their 2025-26 media day at their Auerbach Center practice facility. Thirteen players, two Celtics decision-makers and one world-renowned scientist held news conferences during the marathon event, which took place one day before Boston’s first training camp practice. Here was one big takeaway from each of those 16 pressers: Brad Stevens The word of the day for Stevens was “unproven.” Boston’s president of basketball operations used it four times to describe his team’s roster, which lost half of its rotation this offseason while adding just one player with real NBA…
Alex Bregman will be pivotal to the Boston Red Sox making a deep playoff run, but the October veteran may not begin the postseason at 100 percent. Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday, per the Boston Globe’s Tim Healey, that Bregman is feeling under the weather. The third baseman traveled to New York away from the team after sitting out the final two games of the regular season. However, Breslow expects Bregman to play Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. WEEI’s Rob Bradford posted a video of Bregman practicing…
