The Boston Red Sox appear destined to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2021. The club’s magic number is down to one, meaning the next Houston Astros loss or Red Sox win will send Boston to the postseason. But who the Red Sox will play remains quite uncertain. Masslive.com’s Chris Cotillo broke it all down on X: “In all likelihood, Red Sox will be traveling to NY, TOR, CLE or DET for a Wild Card Series starting Tuesday,” Cotillo posted. But if the Red Sox clinch on Thursday, that puts some wheels in motion. “(It) allows the…

Robert Kraft and his family have owned 100 percent of the New England Patriots since purchasing the team in 1994. That’s about to change, it appears. The private equity firm Sixth Street has a deal in place to acquire 3 percent of the Patriots from the Kraft family, Ben Fischer of the Sports Business Journal reports. Per Fischer, the deal is part of Kraft’s plan to divest 8 percent of the Patriots franchise, which is currently valued at $9.25 billion, per CNBC. The buyer of the other 5 percent is currently unknown, Fischer reports, but both deals are expected to…

FOXBORO — Progress has not always been linear for Drake Maye, but the future still looks bright for the young Patriots quarterback. It appears Maye is beginning to take a second-year leap this season while playing for a new head coach in Mike Vrabel, in a new system under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and with improved pass-catchers and an upgraded offensive line. But Maye has also still played inconsistently through the first three weeks of the season as he’s led the Patriots to a 1-2 record. Depending on what stat you’re weighing, Maye has either already ascended into the upper…

I breathed in as I stepped up to take my first drive ever at Scituate’s famed Widow’s Walk Golf Course, trying to set aside my fear. Fear? What a crazy golf concept. But the legend of Widow’s Walk runs deep. It’s super hard, they say. The wind will mess with your game and your mind, they claim. Bring a ton of balls, they warn with a wink; go into the deep fescue off the narrow fairways and you can’t find your ball even if it’s the the size of watermelon. As a developing golfer, I wasn’t sure I was ready…

The Sox are doing what’s been asked of them, by getting wins and taking series in the midst of this final gauntlet to the postseason. The Blue Jays have spooked the Sox all season, especially in Toronto, but Boston has taken this series when it may matter most. There was lots of good stuff for me to write about today!Garrett Crochet: You couldn’t have asked for a better start from him, and he was so efficient against the slumping Blue Jays that he was able to go 8 innings. His final line was 8 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0…

Week 4 is often a checkpoint for many programs. For the majority, this will mark the final game of out-of-conference play. Typically the heavy-hitters begin to pull away from the pack, as they establish dominance over their neighboring counterparts. For others, it is one final opportunity to prove they truly belong in the hunt. In many cases, this is due to limitations where they play games involving the utmost difficulty. The Herald’s team had mixed results, going a combined 14-6 overall with the picks. This time around is no different, with incredible battles slated across the board. BC High at…

When Roman Anthony went down with an injury, the Boston Red Sox’s offense was lacking. Anthony had been one of the most productive hitters in the lineup since his promotion to the big leagues. His absence left the Red Sox with a hole in the order that they felt. In the two weeks following his injury, Boston scored 58 runs and only hit 11 home runs, 23rd and 26th in baseball, respectively. Entering Tuesday’s series against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Red Sox’s grasp on a Wild Card spot was tenuous. They led the Houston Astros and Cleveland Guardians by…

After two games, we are a third of the way through the preseason schedule and the Bruins are still something of a mystery. But some things are coming into focus and roster decisions – some tough ones – will have to be made in the not-too-distant future. Here are a few thoughts and observations gleaned from the first week of camp: * John Beecher has his work cut out for him to make this team. On Tuesday, he coughed up the puck at the blue line and it led to a goal against. He had no shot attempts or hits…
