Brad Stevens didn’t sugarcoat it. Asked last week how the Celtics’ frontcourt will manage without its top three big men, Boston’s president of basketball operations bluntly replied: “We’re going to find out, right?” In an offseason of change for the Celtics, who dismantled a significant portion their championship-winning roster to avoid the wrath of the NBA’s second apron, no position group has been hit harder than center. Kristaps Porzingis was traded to Atlanta in a salary dump. Luke Kornet parlayed his career year on a veteran minimum contract into a four-year, $41 million payday from San Antonio. Al Horford has…

Senior NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Tuesday that former Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier is still under federal investigation for a possible gambling probe. Rozier just completed his first full season with the Miami Heat after being acquired in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets in January 2024. “Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier has not been cleared of any wrongdoing and remains under federal investigation on a potential gambling probe, league sources tell me,” Haynes wrote on X. Who is he and where did he come from? He’s Marcus Phillips and he comes to us from South Dakota via the University of Tennessee. The Red Sox selected Phillips 33rd overall, with a pick received via the Quinn Priester trade. Fifty percent of my freshman year roommates were from The Mount Rushmore State, but only 0.002% of all Major League Baseball players in history were from there. Can Phillips beat the odds and become only the fifth player born in South Dakota to make the All-Star team joining Floyd Bannister, Keith Foulke (!), Justin Duchscherer, and Sean Doolittle? We’ll…

The Bruins may be short on offensive star-power after David Pastrnak, but on Tuesday they continued to bolster to their organizational depth at forward. The B’s re-upped center John Farinacci to a one-year, two-way contract for the league minimum salary cap hit of $775,000. Farinacci had nine goals and 28 assists in 57 games and scored a goal in his NHL debut in the B’s season finale against the Devils on April 15. Whether he gets a good shot to make the Boston roster remains to be seen. Penciling in the team’s top two lines seems fairly simple, at least…

Three players are representing the Boston Red Sox at the 2025 Major League All-Star Game in Atlanta tonight, but there should be at least one more. By the numbers, Ceddanne Rafaela deserves to be there. After a torrid hot streak to end the first half, he enters the All-Star Break with a .271/.314/.483 batting line, 14 home runs, 13 stolen bases and 3.4 WAR. While he got off to a slow start, Rafaela has been one of the best players in baseball this year, ranking 17th among position players in WAR according to FanGraphs. He’s been even better lately, tying…

The Boston Bruins have dished out some new digs for 2025-26. The Bs released a list of jersey numbers for some of their offseason additions on Monday, with one newcomer rocking digits that haven’t been worn within the organization very much. Viktor Arvidsson will wear No. 71, Matěj Blümel will wear No. 13, Michael Eyssimont will wear No. 81, Tanner Jeannot will wear No. 84, Jordan Harris will wear No. 43, Alex Steeves will wear No. 21 and Victor Söderström will wear No. 29, according to the club’s release. Happy Derby day, folks. In just a few hours, some of the league’s top sluggers will be launching spheres of cowhide deep into the Atlanta sky at an alarming rate. The Home Run Derby tonight got us thinking: what random Red Sox players at the peak of their powers—past or present—would we like to see step into the box for this contest? No David Ortiz, Ted Williams, or Manny Ramirez selections; that’s too easy. We want to dive deep, and we’d love to read who you would pick in the comment section below. Batter up.
