ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — IndyCar driver Pato O’Ward and series officials were shocked by a social media post from the Department of Homeland Security that touts plans for an immigration detention center in Indiana dubbed “Speedway Slammer,” and includes a car with the same number as the only Mexican driver in the series. “It caught a lot of people off guard. Definitely caught me off guard,” O’Ward said Wednesday. “I was just a little bit shocked at the coincidences of that and, you know, of what it means. … I don’t think it made a lot of people proud, to…

Roman Anthony has had a dream start to his Boston Red Sox career. He’s performed to the level many expected and signed a huge contract to stay with the team for the foreseeable future. Kristian Campbell’s major league career hasn’t gone quite as well. He also signed a long-term extension, but after a hot start, Campbell went ice cold before being sent down to Triple-A Worcester. Campbell’s been working on finding his swing in Worcester, as well as playing first base. It’s been a work in progress, but he’s started to turn it around. He’s currently riding a 15-game hitting…

This is my 300th article writing for Over The Monster. Insert cake emoji, insert candles emoji. Here’s to another 300! Let’s get right into yesterday’s action. The WooSox — seeing the Red Sox dig deep into their bullpen and lose 7-3 — maybe got envious and did the same? On a six-pitcher night Cooper Criswell got tagged for three earned runs on five hits in four innings and the offensive output couldn’t match that. It also didn’t help that Brennan Bernardino, resting down in Worcester, didn’t look too great in his inning of work, but he did strike out three, at…
The GOAT will live on forever in Foxboro. A statue honoring Patriots legendary quarterback Tom Brady has come out of retirement, or storage that is, and will be unveiled ahead of Friday night’s preseason opener vs. Washington. A large black box covered he 12-foot statue after a truck brought it in front of Gillette Stadium, in Patriot Place, early Thursday morning. The ceremony, kicking off at 6 p.m. Friday, has been more than a year in the making. On the night Brady was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in June 2024, team Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft announced…
Jayson Tatum appeared at Wednesday’s joint practice between the New England Patriots and Washington Commanders and was seen walking comfortably while wearing a brace to support his surgically repaired left Achilles. The Boston Celtics superstar is almost three months removed from rupturing his Achilles against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals and on Thursday, he made another public appearance. Tatum attended Thursday’s groundbreaking of a new early childhood education center in Providence’s Manton Heights neighborhood. Boston Sports Journal’s John Karalis captured video of the moment the 27-year-old walked to his seat. “Jayson Tatum walks into a community…

FOXBORO — A head coach at the bottom of a pile. Two rising star quarterbacks. Clutch defense in the final seconds. The Patriots’ joint practice with the Commanders featured a little bit of everything Wednesday. Both teams went head-to-head over two hours on the practice fields outside Gillette Stadium, where in the end Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel and Co. seemed to gain an upper hand despite a late interception Backup cornerback Alex Austin kncoked away Jayden Daniels’ final throw, an end-zone toss on fourth-down that ended a period started at the 25-yard line with 45 seconds left. Before then, the…
Back in spring training when the Red Sox initially approached Roman Anthony about the possibility of signing a long-term extension, the club’s top prospect wasn’t sure he was ready to make that kind of commitment to a place he hadn’t yet gotten to really know. But now, even just two months into his big league career, Anthony knows Boston is where he wants to be. The Red Sox announced Wednesday that they’ve signed the 21-year-old outfielder to an eight-year extension that will keep Anthony in Boston throughout the next decade. The deal will take effect next year and covers the…
The Boston Red Sox seemingly don’t have to worry about Carlos Narváez missing much more time. Yet to record a base hit in August, Narváez has sat out three of Boston’s last four games. The starting catcher missed Wednesday’s 7-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals with a knee issue. Narváez hopes to return to the lineup soon. He said after Wednesday’s game, per the Boston Globe’s Tim Healey, that his knee simply felt sore after undergoing medical evaluations. The rookie expects to play on Friday or Saturday. Narváez limped down the first-base line while running out a batted ball…
