The Red Sox have a chance to clinch this week’s series against the Athletics, and Thursday afternoon they’ll give the ball to one of their best arms.
Brayan Bello (11-7, 3.25) will take the mound for the series finale, and the Red Sox right-hander is scheduled to face off against A’s righty J.T. Ginn (3-6, 4.69).
The Red Sox will go with the same top four in their lineup as in Wednesday’s walk-off win, with Jarren Duran leading off, Trevor Story batting second, Alex Bregman third and Masataka Yoshida cleanup.
Entering the day the Red Sox trail the Toronto Blue Jays by six games in the AL East standings, the New York Yankees by two games for the top AL Wild Card spot and are tied with the Seattle Mariners for the second and third spots. Boston maintains a 2.5 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians, who are currently the last team out of the field, giving them a magic number of eight to clinch a playoff spot.
