The Boston Red Sox are fully focused on the 2025 campaign, and why wouldn’t they be? After reeling off three straight wins over the New York Yankees, the Red Sox hold a two-game lead over their longtime division rival for the top American League wild card spot.

After Boston battered New York to the tune of a 12-1 victory on Saturday afternoon and earned the series victory, they will go for the sweep on Sunday. In the process, the Sox will be looking for their mind-boggling ninth-straight win over the Yanks.

Even with their recent run of success against the Yankees, the Red Sox still have a lot of work ahead of them. However, some new details about the 2026 season have emerged that will surely catch the team’s attention.

This week, the schedule for the 2026 MLB season will be released, which is always something that fans keep tabs on. According to a recent report, Boston will be opening its 2026 campaign against old friend Terry Francona and the Cincinnati Reds.

“An industry source reveals that, as they have in each of the last two seasons, the Red Sox will open on the road,” Sean McAdam of MassLive reported. “They’ll begin the 2026 season with a series in Cincinnati against Terry Francona and the Reds, followed by a trip to Houston to meet the Astros.”

“The Red Sox will then return to Fenway Park for their home opener, where they’ll host the San Diego Padres. That will mark the second straight season in which the Red Sox’ opponent for the home opener will be a team from the National League. They hosted the St. Louis Cardinals for their first home series earlier this year.”

Francona served as Boston’s manager from 2004 to 2011, helping them win a pair of World Series championships in the process. While his tenure with the team didn’t exactly come to a clean end, he is viewed as a franchise icon for helping the Red Sox break “The Curse of the Bambino” in 2004.

For now, the Sox’s main focus will be on sweeping the Yankees. But when they eventually turn their attention to the 2026 campaign, it looks like they will be greeted by none other than Francona, who is attempting to help the upstart Reds take the next step forward.
